Jazz lessons at Montreux
“It's the group sound that's important, even when you're playing a solo.”
- Oscar Peterson
Jazz piano legend Oscar Peterson once said, “It's the group sound that's important, even when you're playing a solo.” That group sound is something BT knows well. It's the sound of innovation sprung from the collaborative efforts that take place in meeting rooms and over videoconference; it's the sound of musical empathy, of a voice rising playfully to tease new harmonies from an old melody. But great collaboration is something that needs to be worked on. “There's always something that you miss,” said the late John Lewis of the Modern Jazz Quartet, who played with the same musicians for the better part of 20 years. “But you know you're going to play it over. You find truth. You find the way it should be.”
Business likely has much to learn from the methods and managed mayhem that informs great musical partnerships. Multinational companies today are finding that collaboration across borders, cultures and skill-sets is more vital than ever to long-term success. BT believes that when talented professionals come together to innovate, they can create something extraordinary; and in that spirit BT is extremely proud to be a sponsor and technology partner of the Montreux Jazz Festival.
